It was January 7th. My partners and I had recently bought a new boat — well, a boat that was new to us — in Channel Islands Harbor. After a few repairs at the local boat yard, it was time to sail her home. So, my wife and I headed out to Oxnard early that morning. The day was amazingly bright, the water was calm and deep blue. But, unfortunately, there was no wind. So, we powered up the iron spinnaker and headed south. Along the way, we saw three whales and, easily, one thousand dolphins. My wife was in sea-life-heaven. We pulled into Marina del Rey just as the sun was setting. A forty-five mile sail in just about eight hours. Fantastic!
